POSITION SUMMARY:

Provides overall management of the UTHHSC Medical School bookstore, which includes planning, organizing and directing activities to ensure that required and recommended books and materials are provided for students in an efficient and effective manner.

POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Maintains appropriate inventory levels throughout the school year, requiring accurate budgeting of purchases to meet current sales levels. 
  2. Prepares an annual budget for approval by manager and is accountable for the bookstore’s performance against the approved budget.
  3. Oversees merchandise acquisition, marketing and promotion, generation of sales revenue and policies and procedures for the Bookstore.
  4. Prepares monthly and annual financial REPORTS TO: monitor the bookstore’s financial status as well as highlighting successful ventures and problems experienced in its operation. 
  5. Maintains a working knowledge of the medical text and equipment market in order to be aware of appropriate and available sources of merchandise. 
  6. Consolidates and analyzes information regarding various vendors' policies, publishers' products, instructors' text and supply requirements, and University policies and procedures to ensure all appropriate factors are considered in establishing yearly ordering patterns.
  7. Coordinates the receipt of book lists from each school used to order books and to schedule deadlines for the procurement of graduation diplomas and regalia.
  8. Ensures the continued maintenance of the computer system, which is an integral part of the bookstore's recordkeeping and reporting capabilities.
  9. keeps staff fully informed of all policies and procedures related to their job duties.
  10. Manages Human Resources activities of department in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  11. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
  1. Knowledge of retail sales and medical equipment desirable.
  2. Familiarly with U.T. procedures and TUFIMS desirable.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Four years retail experience within a similar setting, including two years of supervisory experience.
