POSITION SUMMARY:
Accountable for student recruiting,
increasing the diversity of the student body, retention activities for
minority students, preparation and dissemination of information on the
public health profession and on educational and career training opportunities
available through the SPH degree programs, and preparation of substantive
reports for both internal and external consumption.
POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Assists faculty with efforts
to increase its proportion of ethnic minorities.

Designs, prepares and distributes
informational materials on the School of Public Health.

Designs and produces displays
for professional meetings.
-
Prepares reports on minority
affairs for internal and external consumption.
-
Participates in activities of
academic and professional organizations and the U.T. System
-
Serves as one of two liaisons
between SPH and alumni.
-
Makes presentations on educational
and career opportunities in public health to various groups.
-
Organizes and coordinates SPH
campus visits by students and faculty from area schools.
-
Counsels prospective students,
and represents the School at college and university graduate/professional
school days.

Efforts to increase the enrollment
of ethnic minorities include the above activities performed at institutions
with significant minority enrollment; review of all minority applications;
and, where appropriate, services as an advocate during the admissions process.

Assists faculty search committees
by contacting appropriate individuals, institutions, and organizations
to obtain the names of potential minority candidates, and by providing
information on minority oriented publications for placement of advertisements.

Serves as the Chair of the Minority
Affairs Council (MAC) and, as such, plans and coordinates support services
designed to increase retention and graduation rates of minority students.
These services include organizing fall and spring semester seminars on
academic skills and on minority related public health issues; providing
staff support for the design and implementation of credit courses on multicultural
health and policy issues; organizing social events which allow minority
students and SPH faculty to interact in a non-classroom setting; and raising
funds to cover annual minority scholarship.

Coordinates the bi-annual revision
of the School catalogue; prepares and revises, as necessary, the public
health chapter of the Texas Association of Advisors to the Health Professions
Handbook; designs and produces discipline and module brochures; and ensures
the production of specialty print material as needed.

Designs and produces exhibits
for the professional association annual meetings; coordinates booth rental,
transportation, and staffing of exhibit booth; and for extends invitations
to SPH alumni for related events.

Reviews SPH minority affairs
sections of the HSC Strategic Plan, the Texas Plan, UTHHSC management reports,
and the UT System recruiting and minority recruiting report.

Handles Alumni Association finances,
assists with the alumni newsletter and with the annual Alumni Association
Reunion and Forum.

Responsible for the design,
execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides
reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets
are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable
laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Public
Health or its equivalent; Master degree preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
List minimum experience,
which candidates will need to be considered for the position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
For classified positions,
