POSITION SUMMARY:

Manages the Learning Resource Center (LRC) in support of the Medical School's teaching and learning functions. More specifically, promotes the use of traditional and innovative instructional resources correlated with curricular offerings and provides space and facilities for study 24-hours a day and 7-days a week.

POSITION KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Advises the faculty on availability of self-instructional, audiovisual and computer-assisted materials and systems for possible adoption as supplementary instructional aids in support of curriculum.
  2. Ensures the efficient and effective operations of the Learning Resource Center, including coordinating its long hours of operations and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
  3. Assists the faculty and students in the introduction of media and systems which cultivate self-study and life-long learning habits.
  4. Maintains the library of instructional media, course reserves, and the various collections of instructional media and corresponding inventory of audiovisual and computer equipment.
  5. Disseminates instructional media to faculty and students and manages the circulation of the same through an integrated computerized database. 
  6. Analyzes data on the use of resources, correlates findings with the gate count (frequency of clients entering/leaving the LRC) and advises the faculty of the same.
  7. Assists in the coordination of various curricular offerings: Surgery Skills Lab, in conjunction with the Department of Surgery; videotaping of course lectures and course electives, in conjunction with the Course Directors; dissemination of catalogs on residency and electives available at institutions across the United States and abroad; management of an inventory of over 500 beepers for lease/loan to the students while on clinical rotations.
  8. Liaise with the LBJ Hospital to provide appropriate Library/LRC facilities to students.
  9. Contributes to the promotion of the Medical School's innovative educational strategies.
  10. Serves on the Computer Advisory Committee of the Medical School.
  11. Manages Human Resources activities of area of responsibility in regards to: recruiting and selection, hiring and termination, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations, and salary planning.
  12. Responsible for the design, execution and effectiveness of a system of internal controls which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

CERTIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Master’s degree in education media.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Ten plus (10+) years of related experience in an institution of higher learning.
