Continuing Education Opportunities

Welcome to the Web Site for the Continuing Education Advisory Committee (CEAC) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. UTHSC-H  is committed to facilitating lifelong learning for its students, faculty, staff and the greater community.  

To foster and facilitate continued learning, the health science center offers a variety of continuing education programs for health professionals within the following schools:    

The University of Texas Medical School

Continuing education programs are administered by the Office of Continuing Education and a continuing medical education partnership program with The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston (UTMB) (http://www.utcme.net/).

The University of Texas Dental Branch

(Continuing education programs are accredited by the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry and the Association for Continuing Dental Education.)

The University of Texas School of Nursing

(The School of Nursing is approved as a provider of continuing education in nursing by the Texas Nurses Association, which is accredited as an approver of continuing education in nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. This approval meets Type I criteria for mandatory continuing education requirements towards re-licensure as established by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.)

The University of Texas School of Public Health

• Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research
  (Courses in health education and health promotion for practitioners and faculty in health fields. CHES units are requested for all courses from the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing)

• Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health
  (The SWCOEH continuing education programs are approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health [NIOSH])

• The Texas Public Health Training Center
  (A partnership among: The University of Texas Health Science Center School of Public Health, The Texas A&M University System Health Science Center School of Rural Public Health, and The University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth School of Public Health funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resource Services Administration)

• Center for Biosecurity and Public Health Preparedness
  Goals of the Center are to improve the public health capacity to address all types of disasters locally, within Texas and throughout the country, through training and education, research and community service.

The University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center

It is an on-going quest of UTHCPC to maintain the premier psychiatric facility in the city of Houston. Hospital Wide Education encourages this success through the New Orientation process and the continuing education of mental health professionals.

Oversight for Continuing Education programs at UT-Houston is the responsibility of the Continuing Education Advisory Committee.
