Term of Membership
Staggered three-year terms with one term expiring each year.

Charge
The Committee reports to the Executive Vice President for Research (EVPR) on matters related to physical safety activities of UT-Houston. The Committee reviews physical safety issues such as personnel and physical security, fire alarms, means of building egress, and ergonomics, ventilation, compressed gas cylinders, Workmen's Compensation Insurance Claims, and the first report of injuries trends. The Environmental Health and Safety Department is the monitoring and effector arm of the Physical Safety Committee. Specific charges to the Committee include the following.

  • To recommend to the EVPR policies and procedures to ensure the health and safety of all individuals within UT-Houston.
  • To recommend to the EVPR policies and procedures to ensure UT-Houston's compliance with all federal state and local statutes, regulations, procedures and principles established to ensure a safe and healthy working and learning environment at UT-Houston.
  • To recommend to the EVPR the need for general and specific training programs for faculty, students and staff, and to review the appropriateness and effectiveness of such UT-Houston's training programs.
  • To submit reports, at least annually, to the EVPR recommending measures to control potential physical hazards and to assure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • To recommend to the EVPR policies and procedures relating to personnel and physical security.
