Welcome to The University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center (UTHCPC), a teaching hospital, delivering a comprehensive program of psychiatric and psychosocial services to more than 6,100 inpatient admissions and 14,000 outpatient visits annually.

Our patients, including children, adolescents and adults suffer, from mental illness, including bipolar disorder (manic depression), depression, schizophrenia, behavioral disorders and adjustment disorders.

UTHCPC is proud of our accomplishments in reaching out beyond our walls to serve the community at large. Successful treatment programs and relationships have been established with The Children’s Assessment Center (operated by Harris County’s Children’s Protective Services), providing psychiatric and psychological assessments of abused children; Neighborhood Centers and Gulf Coast Community Head Start (serving children ages 3 – 5 and their teachers, UTHCPC offers evaluations and clinical assessment services); and the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department (providing a 16-bed treatment unit for those who require special mental health care not available in the detention center).
