Overview
The University
of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center (UTHCPC) provides
short-term
inpatient mental healthcare services for children, adolescents
and adults. Our affiliation as an operating unit of The University
of Texas Health Science Center at Houston affords us the opportunity
to provide quality patient care, education of clinical professionals,
as well as research into the causes and treatments of mental
illness.
UTHCPC
is housed in a three-story building located at 2800 South
MacGregor Way, Houston, Texas 77021, in the Texas Medical
Center.
The hospital
serves persons suffering from depression, major depression
or bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other severe behavioral
or mental health disorders.
Patients
admit to the hospital through various routes. Voluntarily-admitted
patients are referred by their health insurance provider,
private physician or other hospitals. They can also be referred
by the Mental Health Mental Retardation Authority of Harris
County. Involuntarily-admitted patients are committed through
the probate court system, after being referred for treatment
by family members, healthcare providers or others
