Inpatient CareExcellent patient care is the primary concern of the University of Texas Harris County Psychiatric Center, an acute care, public psychiatric hospital with a 250-bed treatment capacity. Patients are treated by a highly qualified, multidisciplinary staff--compromised of psychiatrists, non-psychiatric physicians (including consultants, interns and pediatricians), psychiatric residents, psychologists, nurses, social workers, activity and music therapists, pharmacists, dietitians and chaplains--that provides individualized care.There are several areas of care:
The average length of stay is nine days for adult patients and thirteen days for children and adolescents. Those in need of longer-term care may be referred to Rusk State Hospital The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Texas-Houston Medical School provides the medical expertise. The UT-Houston Health Science Center operates and staffs the facility.
