Certain items used for patient care are considered single use only to reduce the possibility of infection.

Procedure:

All bedpans/urinals/Fireman's Caps are considered single use only.

The contents of a bedpan/urinal/Fireman's Cap will be disposed of in the patient commode.

Used bedpans/urinals/Fireman's Caps are placed in red bags and disposed of in the containers labeled for biohazardous materials.

Housekeeping will be notified to remove the bags as soon as possible following disposal.
