Guidelines are
provided for the safe use of single-use disposable razors for patients.
Procedure:
Single-use
disposable razors will be available for patient use on each unit.
Floor stock shaving
cream or balm may be used by patients at their discretion.
Any patient in
possession of a razor shall be monitored by direct staff observation.
Razors will be
collected as each patient leaves the shaving area (bathroom); the patient shall
drop the used razor in the sharps container held by the staff member observing
the shaving process. (See Patient
Care Variance Report in case of patient injury due to razors.)
The sharps
container will be placed in the locked cabinet. (Reference Introduction
to Disposable Items)
