To provide an opportunity for in-house registered nurses employed at 100% to assist with supplemental staffing needs of the hospital.

Procedure:

Orange Card nurses are those registered nurses currently employed 100% at UTHCPC who register to work shifts additional to those they are assigned on their regular schedule.  Any registered nurse working as a full time status employee at UTHCPC is eligible to work Orange Card.

Any registered nurse working Orange Card must fulfill his/her regularly scheduled obligations per week in order to qualify for the Orange Card rate of pay.  For each regularly scheduled shift during the week the individual is unable to work, they will forfeit the Orange Card rate.

If the overtime rate exceeds the Orange Card rate, the employee will be paid at the higher rate.  The following conditions/requirements shall apply to all Orange Card registered nurses:

1.      A specific number of shifts shall not be guaranteed.

2.      Each Orange Card registered nurse shall make his/her availability known to the Staffing Office/Nurse Manager.

3.      The staffing representative/Nurse Manager will then schedule employees based on their availability and hospital needs.  The employee shall contact staffing coordinator for confirmation of shifts.

4.      All Orange Card shifts must be pre-authorized by a Nurse Manager.

5.      Orange Card registered nurses may be cancelled by a Nurse Manager, Nursing Supervisor, staffing office representative, or designee.

6.      Orange Card registered nurses may be required to work on any unit or shift within the hospital.

7.      The employee shall clock in at the beginning and end of the shift.
