Safety of patients is of utmost importance at UTHCPC.  To promote safety, a multidisciplinary treatment team will specifically review treatment of all patients presenting a safety problem on the unit.

Procedure:

When a patient on the unit presents a safety problem, this fact will be addressed at the next treatment team meeting.

The team will discuss the treatment options/modalities for securing the safety of the patient in question as well as other patients and staff.

The problem will be identified on the Master Treatment Plan and in the progress notes.

Options for dealing with patients that are potentially a safety risk are:

1.      1:1 supervision

2.      Direct Observation

4.      Physical exercise
