This topic provides information about corrective action available to the supervisor for attendance related occurrences.

Types

Employees who display an identifiable pattern of repeated attendance occurrences are subject to the following corrective actions, listed in the order performed, at the supervisor's discretion:

When to Use

Performance coaching

Supervisor counsels employee on the attendance expectations and policies

Employee displays an identifiable pattern of repeated attendance occurrences

Verbal counseling

Verbal progressive disciplinary action

Employee fails to:

Respond to performance coaching

Demonstrate improved performance

Written reprimand

Supervisor gives notice of expected improvement and consequences

Employee fails to demonstrate improved performance after notice of expected improvement

Suspension without pay

Supervisor may suspend employee for up to 30-days

Documentation: A copy of the Notice of Disciplinary Action form:

Filed in the employee's:

Departmental personnel file

Official record

Nursing employees unable to work compressed weekends

Supervisors take the following corrective action steps when a nursing employee is unavailable to work during regularly scheduled, compressed weekend, 16-hour shifts:

First occurrence
Corrective action proceedings begin with counseling.

Second occurrence within one fiscal year
Supervisor schedules employee to work every other weekend instead of compressed weekends.

Documentation

Supervisors must document all corrective action taken in the employee's departmental personnel file.
