Pharmaceutical Sponsored In-services

Policy

In order to facilitate in-services offered by a pharmaceutical company, Hospital Wide Education Department established procedure for inservices/presentations. The presenting pharmaceutical company will be required to meet one of the following criteria:

  1. M.D., Pharm-D, or PhD will present the in-service material
  2. The in-service will have continuing education credits attached to it
  3. The in-service will showcase proper administration of a particular medication (e.g.,medication which requires titration, proper administration technique).

All H.W.E. sponsored in-services must be approved by department manager prior to booking.

Hospital Wide Education will be the point of entry for all pharmaceutical sponsored presentations in the hospital.

Procedure

The pharmaceutical company will provide in advance if possible, the following information:

  1. The name of the speaker
  2. Their credentials
  3. Topic covered
  4. Continuing education credits, if applicable
  5. Target Audience

Flyers and/or e-mails of the presentations will identify if continuing education credits are offered.

Each pharmaceutical representative will be given a copy of this policy.

Outpatient sponsored in-services must be approved by department manager prior to booking.

Hospital wide education will be responsible for record keeping of all pharmaceutical in-services facilitated.
