SME: Infection Control Manager
Ice machines are maintained and cleaned on a regular basis to prevent the spread
of infection.
Facilities Management provides the following routine maintenance services:

![]() | Performs activities as necessary to clean and sanitize ice machines on a quarterly, semi-annual, and annual basis |
![]() | Keeps records of ice machine maintenance activities |
![]() | Facilities Management staff clean the inside of the machine every 6 months |
Housekeeping staff perform the following services:
![]() | Clean the inner and outer ice dispensing spouts (monthly) |
![]() | Clean drain grate and drain pan (daily) |
The following table describes the steps involved in monthly cleaning of ice machines:

Loosen thumb screw to remove inner and outer spouts. |

Remove drain grate. |

Wipe both spouts, drain grate and drain pan with a clean cloth containing a solution of Lime-away. |

Rinse both spouts, drain grate and pan with clean water. |

Wipe both spouts, drain grate and pan with a clean cloth containing a solution of 10% bleach in water. |
6 |
Rinse spouts and drain grate under running water. Wipe out the drain pan with a wet cloth. |
7 |
Dry spouts, drain grate and pan with a clean cloth. |
8 |
Put spouts and drain grate back on the machine. |
9 |
Place a sticker in the upper left corner of the ice machine indicating the date of cleaning and the person who cleaned it. |
