This topic provides information about infection control studies.

Responsibility

The Infection Control Committee institutes studies of non-routine infection control.

Indicators

The Infection Control Committee initiates an infection control study when the review of routine information shows the following:

Unusual epidemics

Clusters of infections

Infections due to unusual pathogens

Any occurrence of nosocomial infection that exceeds the usual baseline levels

Other infectious disease issues that the Infection Control Committee considers important

Authority

The Infection Control Committee has the authority to:

Take and review samples required by federal, state, or local regulations

Originate, supervise, review, and act on the study of:

Cultures of the personnel or environment

Antimicrobial susceptibility and/or resistance

Other studies as the committee considers advisable
