Patients from the outpatient programs may require admission into the inpatient
unit.
Patient Registration staff follows the policy for re-admissions.
The Outpatient (OP) Clinician gives a verbal report about the patient to the registration staff and assigned inpatient clinician about the following (during clinic hours). Pertinent information is also available online:

The OP physician determines if a patient meets the criteria for inpatient hospitalization. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

The OP physician calls the UTHCPC Medical Director for approval of a direct University of Texas admission, see procedure on UT Admissions. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

The OP staff calls the Patient Registration office and requests a bed for a direct University of Texas (UT) admission.

Patient Registration staff assigns a bed and notifies the OP staff. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

The OP clinician physician calls the assigned inpatient clinician and gives a verbal report about the patient during clinic hours. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

The OP attending physician's last progress note is available online. | |||||||||||||||||||||||

During non-clinical hours the inpatient registration staff notifies the assigned inpatient unit that the patient is a HCPC outpatient. Inpatient unit staff accesses relevant clinical information online. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
