UTHCPC offers closed circuit television to provide the following services:

Patient/Family/Staff information, Education, Entertainment.

Television services

In addition to public television channels, UTHCPC provides access to one closed circuit (in-house) channels. This closed circuit channel (Channel 7) may be accessed from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. by the following:

Patient units

Designated conference rooms

Lobby

Note: National and local news may be accessed on public channels 2, 8, 11, 13, at regular broadcasting times.

Technical assistance

Technical assistance is to be directed to Management Information Systems at extension 7811

In-house program directory

A directory of in-house programming is delivered to all UT-HCPC staff via email weekly via Hospital Wide Education. This directory includes show times, synopsis of feature, movie ratings. The directory also includes color coding which allows staff to distinguish between Information, Education, and Entertainment. UT-HCPC staff has access to records of all previously broadcast programming from September 2003 to present. This information can be obtained in the Hospital Wide Education Department, extension 4959.

Therapeutic milieu

On the units, the closed-circuit channel is considered a priority over public television to provide patients with a therapeutic milieu. Use of this channel is determined by staff members in accordance with patients’ rights and needs.

VCR use for
tele-education

VCR/DVD’s on patient care units are for the use of approved clinical materials. The Charge Nurse will exercise clinical judgment in determining what material is appropriate for viewing given their current patient population.
