The physician must write new medication orders to reorder or discontinue a drug in the following situations:
Notification
A computer-generated report indicating drugs which need to be reordered or discontinued are placed in the physician order section of the chart. The physician must sign the order and clearly indicate if s/he wants to reorder or discontinue the medication.
Drugs stop date
All orders for drugs that are not listed below are automatically discontinued after 14 days. The following is a list of drugs and drug classes with their respective stop date:

| Controlled Drugs (Schedule II) | 72 hours |
| Controlled Drugs (Schedule III-V) | 14 days |
| Anticoagulants | 72 hours |
| Corticosteroids (excluding topicals) | 7 days |
| PRN Psychoactives & Anxiolytics | 14 days |
| Multivitamins, Maalox, MOM, Tylenol | 30 days |
