Medication Usage Evaluation

Whenever writing orders for medications, physicians must refer to the Medication Usage Evaluation (MUE) Criteria list.

Drugs

The medical staff and Pharmacy Department at UTHCPC have developed Medication Use criteria for selected psychoactives and anti-infectives.

Physician Order

Physicians must write orders that are within the limits of the MUE Criteria and refer to the criteria when writing orders or call the Pharmacy.

Orders outside criteria

The physician must document in the progress notes his/her justification for writing orders outside the criteria limits.

Where to obtain

The physician can obtain a full set of criteria from the Pharmacy.
