Last Review Date: 12/29/2010
A physician can enter discharge prescriptions in Sunrise that will print in Pharmacy on the Secure Tamper Resistant Prescription Paper. Printed prescriptions are then returned to the appropriate nursing unit for the physician’s signature.
Physicians must recognize the following constraints when writing prescriptions and bring requests for exceptions to the attention of the Director of Pharmacy or designee:
Psychotherapeutic and anticonvulsant drugs or other drugs pertinent to the patient's primary diagnosis |
|
Supply of medications to last until clinic appointment or three days maximum supply |
The following are required when writing prescriptions:
The physician must write prescriptions in advance of discharge so the Pharmacy can have sufficient time to prepare the prescription, preferably the day prior to discharge. |
|
The physician must use prescription blanks issue by the Texas Department of Public Safety to write prescriptions for Class II medications for the patient |
Physicians must report lost or stolen DPS prescription blanks to the DPS.
If a physician has questions regarding medical usage evaluation, s/he should contact the following:
