SME: Facilities Manager

This policy insures that all penetrations at HCPC will be filled.

Definition of Penetration: Any holes created by any means in the floors/walls/roof or ceiling deck.

Policy

Written approval in the form of a penetration permit will be issued by the facilities superintendent or facilities manager before any penetrations, horizontal or vertical, are allowed. The permit is to be displayed at the penetration site/sites and returned after completing the work. The drivers’ license of the person taking the responsible role will be submitted before the work starts. All the locations where the penetrations will occur will be noted on the approval form. A follow up inspection will be conducted by the Superintendent or the Facilities Manager when the work is completed to insure compliance before the drivers’ license is returned. The proper materials used to seal the penetrations will be presented prior starting the work.

Importance

To verify all smoke and fire barriers are in place to protect the hospital and all personnel/patients/visitors within. This is a life safety containment measure to minimize the spread of smoke and fire.
