SME: Director of Social Services
An important part of effective interdepartmental communication is communication
within each department. Maintaining records is valuable for both line staff
and managers.
Example: Minutes of department meetings
Each department manager is responsible for conducting regularly scheduled meetings with their personnel on all shifts at least once each month.
The agenda for these meetings should include the following:
![]() | Hospital-wide announcements |
![]() | Departmental business |
![]() | When applicable: |
![]() | Safety |
![]() | Infection control |
![]() | Performance improvement |
![]() | Customer satisfaction |
![]() | JCAHO preparation |
![]() | Compliance monitoring |
![]() | Policy/procedure updates |
It is acceptable to include presentation of a relevant educational material as part of the departmental meeting.
Training credit: In order for the Hospital-Wide Education department to issue training credit for this type of in-service, a sign-in sheet must be sent to them with the time, date, and title of the class taught.
Staff must keep minutes of departmental meetings on file in the department.
