New Residents
On Board
The staff and administration of UTHCPC welcome all new psychology
and psychiatry residents beginning clinical orientation during
the next two weeks.
UTHCPC
Receives Bio-Terrorism Funds
UTHCPC has received $13,296 in grant funds from the Regional
Hospital Bio-Terrorism Task Force. These funds come from the
second round of bio-terrorism funding (UTHCPC received $10,000
during the first round). The funds will be distributed to
nursing, facilities and safety.
Benefits
Brown Bag Scheduled
The UTHSCH Benefits Office will conduct a brown bag session
here at UTHCPC to discuss the significant insurance changes
for the upcoming fiscal year. All changes will be effective
September 1, 2004. The session at UTHCPC will be held on Wednesday,
July 14, at 12 noon.
Feed the
Hungry Food Drive
UTHCPC is participating in the annual UTHSCH Food Drive. This
year’s drive is scheduled to take place from
June 21 to July 13. You can donate your change by
placing it in the donation can located in the cafeteria each
day from 11:30 – 2. Checks, canned goods and non-perishable
food items can be brought to the volunteer office or room

President's
Award for Mentoring Women
Has someone given you advice to help you define or reach your
goals, shared with you "how the system works," or
taken the time to introduce you to the "right" people?
Have you matured as a person or as a professional from this
advice?
Then you should
consider nominating your UTHCPC mentor for The President's
Award for Mentoring Women. The mentor may be male or female;
the person mentored must be female.
Three UTH mentors
will receive this award - one each from Faculty, Administrative
and Professional Staff, and Classified Staff. Each winning
mentor receives $2,000.

Fun Fest Volunteers Needed
More volunteers are needed to plan and staff the university's
Oct. 8 Founders' Fun Fest.

ORYX – Patient Injury Rate
JCAHO ORYX Patient Injury Rate Definition
- An injury that
is serious enough to require medical treatment medical treatment
by a physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner,
or one that results in hospitalization or death is reported
to the JCAHO
- Injuries that
only require minor first aid, such as cleaning of abrasions,
ice packs, over the counter medications such as aspirin
or antibiotic creams are reported in-house but not to the
JCAHO
JCAHO ORYX measure
definition…. number of patient injuries per 1000 days
Why did UTHCPC
leadership select the patient injury rate as one of our ORYX
measures?
- Improving patient
safety is a top priority for UTHCPC and nationwide.
