Alan C. Swann, M.D., is a professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he provides expert guidance in the fields of stress and psychopharmacology. During his tenure he has received The University of Texas Medical School at Houston Dean's Teaching Excellence Award. He is Vice Chairman of Research for the Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Science and serves as the Director of Research for the UT Harris County Psychiatric Center.
 
Swann received his bachelor of science degree from Tulane University in 1968 and his medical degree from UT-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas in 1972.
 
Before joining UT-Houston Harris County Psychiatric Center, Swann served as a faculty member for the UT-Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston.
 
Swann is a member of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects and has published more than 60 articles addressing issues in the area of psychiatry.
