Adel
A. Wassef, M.D.,
Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral
Sciences at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston,
has served as an attending physician, Adult Services, since
1994.
Wassef received his medical degree from Ain Shams University
in Cairo, Egypt where he graduated with honors in 1979. He
completed a rotating internship at Ain Shams University Hospitals
in 1980, then served as a general practitioner with the Ministry
of Health in Egypt for one year. After a psychiatry residency
at Behman Hospital in Cairo, Wassef traveled to the U.S. where
he completed a two-year residency at The University of North
Dakota and The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.
Prior to joining the faculty at The UT Health Science Center,
Wassef most recently served as Assistant Professor and Associate
Medical Director of the Psychiatric Clinical Research Center
in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at
UT Medical Branch in Galveston.
He has extensively studied and researched the treatment of
depression and related depressive disorders, and, through
a grant received from NIMH, helped coordinate a series of
continuing education conferences on the recognition and treatment
of depression that was attended by several thousand mental
health professionals from different training backgrounds.
Wassef serves on a number of university and department committees
at The UT Medical School at Houston, including the Undergraduate
Committee, the Residency Training Committee, and the Patient
Rights Committee.
