The following faculty and postdoctoral positions are currently available at the IMM:
Mucosal Immunology Faculty
The Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM) is a component of the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston located in the Texas Medical Center. The IMM occupies new state-of-the-art research facilities (230,000 square feet) that have been honored with seven awards for architectural design. The goal of the Institute is to discover major genetic and molecular mechanisms of disease in order to prevent disease or the complications of disease. Our faculty and programs can be reviewed at http://www.uth.tmc.edu/uth_orgs/imm/index.html.
The Research Center for Immunology and Autoimmune Diseases is currently seeking a mid-career PhD, MD, or MD/PhD scientist for appointment at the senior assistant professor or associate professor level. Although all areas of mucosal immunology will be considered, we are particularly interested in immunologic research of the gut mucosa with relevance to chronic intestinal diseases. The appointment will provide substantial start-up support. On-site core facilities available to IMM faculty include a barrier vivarium, transgenic mouse services, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and cell sorting, high-throughput DNA sequencing, and mass spectroscopy. Cross appointments in basic science and/or clinical departments of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston will be arranged as appropriate. Collaborations are available and encouraged with other faculty members of the Immunology Research Center as well as with faculty members of other Research Centers at the IMM (Diabetes and Obesity, Human Genetics, Cell Signaling, Cardiovascular Disease, Neurodegenerative Diseases, Nanotechnology, and Protein Chemistry).
Interested applicants should send their curriculum vita and research program description to the attention of:

The newly established Center for Diabetes and Obesity Research, under the leadership of Perry E. Bickel, M.D., seeks Ph.D. and M.D.-Ph.D. scientists for appointment at the assistant or associate professor level. M.D. applicants with strong records of research productivity involving molecular mechanisms of diabetes or obesity are also encouraged to apply. Areas of particular interest include neural control of energy metabolism, animal models of metabolic disease, integrative physiology, lipidomics/metabolomics, beta cell biology, and translational research. The appointments will provide substantial programmatic support to enable rapid establishment of independent research initiatives. Opportunities will be available for collaborations with other Centers at the IMM, for example in the areas of stem cells, nanotechnology, immunology, and human genetics.
Please send a description of your research program and your curriculum vitae to Perry E. Bickel, M.D., at the address below.
Diabetes/Obesity Postdoctoral Positions
Postdoctoral positions are available to study the mechanisms and regulation of lipid storage and trafficking within cells and organisms. Experience in the generation and phenotyping of transgenic mouse models or other animal models is required. Applicants with additional expertise in cell and molecular biology and/or in energy metabolism are preferred. Please submit a personal statement and your curriculum vitae to Perry E. Bickel, M.D., at the address below:
