The IMM Cardiovascular Genetic Team

Professor and Director
Center for Cardiovascular Genetic Research |
Achim Bell, Ph.D.,
Postdoctoral Fellow, started his career in Chemistry and Biochemistry at Friedrich Wilhelm University of Bonn on studies of oligosaccharide-sphingolipid cell surface markers. He graduated from Friedrich Schiller-Jena, Germany with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology. He is focused on the identification and elucidation of molecular pathogenesis of cardiomyopathies through in vitro and in vivo studies. |
Evelyn S. Capadocia
Administrative Assistant II |
Sarah Cuddy
Administrative Assistant I |
Grazyna Czernuszewicz, M.S.,
Research Associate, received her Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. Her professional career began at Princeton. She moved to Houston and joined the research laboratory of Dr. Robert Roberts, then Chief of the Section of Cardiology at Baylor. She is a multi-talented individual who oversees the workflow in the laboratory. |
Raffaella Lombardi, M.D.,
Postdoctoral Fellow, is a cardiologist trained in Italy. She joined Dr. Marian's lab as part of her PhD training in cardiovascular molecular genetics in July 2005. She currently is involved in molecular genetic studies of human cardiomyopathies and therapeutic interventions in genetically-defined models of cardiomyopathies. |
Adriana Osio, M.D.,
graduated from the Universidad del Norte School of Medicine, Barranquilla, Colombia with an M.D. in July 2003. During her medical training she spent 3 months at Baylor-affiliated hospitals and 6 months at the University of Miami's William J. Harrington Program for Latin American Students. Dr. Osio focuses on identification of genetic causes of cardiomyopathies. |
Gabriela Rodriguez, M.D.
Research Technician, received her medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California. Following a year of internship at Texas Medical Center Hospitals (2005-06), she joined Dr. Marian's lab. She is currently working with transgenic animal models of cardiomyopathies. |
Simon Sims, Ph.D.
Dr. Sims received his Ph.D. from the University of Leicester in the UK. He went on to complete post-doctoral studies in gene regulation at the University of Washington, Seattle, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center here in Houston. Dr. Sims areas of interest include the development and application of new genetics and genomic techniques for rapid and early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases.

Lily Tan, RN, BSN,
Research Nurse, graduated from The University of Rhode Island School of Nursing and has extensive training and experience in various cardiovascular areas and clinical studies. She is involved in the recruitment of patients with genetic cardiovascular disease including various forms of heart failure and cardiomyopathies, premature coronary atherosclerosis, and myocardial infarction. She is the study coordinator for the TexGen studies at the Center. |
